Yes! There’s Something You Can Do

While Clackamas County Democrats have always depended on our volunteers, this past May’s election drove home just how important our dedicated crew is. Every election, our Neighborhood Leaders knock on fellow Democrats’ doors, pass out slate cards, make phone calls, write letters and more in efforts to Get Out The Vote.

And now, weeks after the election, with the debacle over the ballots is still underway thanks to County Clerk Sherry Hall’s incompetence, volunteers are still playing a vital role, serving as observers watching to ensure every vote is accurately transferred to valid ballots.

The November election is fast approaching, so we are calling on Democrats in Clackamas County to consider how they can offer their talents and passion. Whether you have just a couple of hours a month to spare or all the time in the world (ha!), we need you.

Members of our Volunteer Committee say they are particularly on the hunt for long- and short-term volunteers in these areas:

  • Communications Committee: Graphic design and social media support

  • Technology: Administrative work, assistance with Google suite of products (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Forms), audio-visual support for in-person/hybrid meetings

  • State and County Fair Volunteers

  • Fundraising

  • Poll Watchers for the November election

The best way to let us know you are interested in volunteering is to complete this contact form.

“When we receive your completed form, you can expect an email, text, or both within one to three days to set up a short on-boarding interview,” explains Amber Tatge, who is co-coordinator of the Volunteer Committee along with Heidi Prokop. “During this conversation, we get an idea of the type of work you’re interested in, learn a little about you and explain the opportunities available.”

Check the website for information about the Neighborhood Leaders program and for a list of our committees and special caucuses. All of them welcome your energy and ideas.

The diligent Volunteer Committee team sends out a lively newsletter each month that describes current opportunities and needs. Tatge says helping fellow Dems find just the right way to participate turned out to be her volunteer sweet spot: “I know that having a strong Democratic party is key to making Clackamas County a place I want to live in and raise my children. Organizing with other like-minded people keeps me committed and energized. I know that I'm making a difference in my community.”

The knowledge that she’s making a difference is also important to Communications Committee chair Lisa Nichols who says she volunteers because she wants to “try to improve the system, and the best way to do this is by getting involved.”

Get involved! Find out what you can do to work with your neighbors for a better future for all.
