Letter from the chair

I have heard from many of you regarding your concerns about the upcoming Presidential election. Many of you have asked me to take action. All of you share the same fear that I have- that the election of Donald Trump and the implementation of Project 2025 are existential threats to our democracy. I fully appreciate the anxiety that we share about this prospect and I validate everyone’s sincere feelings.

With this said, I- and all of us- do not have a great deal of input on the Presidential race. County party leaders don’t have a direct line to the White House (although we wish we did!) What we do have is the ability to affect our local races. And so do you all.

No matter the outcome of this Presidential race, once thing is crystal clear. We need to keep the Senate and take back the House. And, as is rarely the case, Oregon is at the forefront of the drive to win back the House.

In addition- our local governments affect all of our lives. We have the opportunity to win back the Clackamas County Commission and restore justice, compassion and sanity. And we have several House races that Republicans are targeting. We need to keep every seat we have and work on getting more!

We need you all. It’s tempting to spend our energy consumed by the Presidential election. Please put that energy into local action. Here are just a few things you can do.

Become a Neighborhood Leader

If you aren’t already doing this, it’s the single most effective action you can take to get out the vote. We’ll provide all the training and materials needed to contact Democratic households in your neighborhood and urge them to vote. Donate, walk, make calls- do what you can! Please contact a campaign today and make yourself available. Here are the local races where your efforts are needed most- I have not listed all our great candidates, but there are a few races where your help can really make a difference:
