Are You a Woman in Clackamas County Running for Office for the First Time?
Consider Applying for our Jill Thorn Grant
First of all, if you are a woman in Clackamas County who is running for office for the first time: THANK YOU! We need your energy, enthusiasm, and dedication.
Second, we want to help! The Jill Thorn Grant is awarded by the Democratic Party of Clackamas County (DPCC) to a woman in Clackamas County who is a Democrat running for public office for the first time. All you need to do is apply for the award, and if our selection committee chooses you as the grant winner, you will receive $500 that you may use for any campaign-related expenses.
This award commemorates the legacy of Oregonian Jill Thorn’s years of public service and the example her life provides to other women seeking to serve the community by serving in public office. Read more about Jill Thorn.
Requirements:
Registered female Democrat
Preparing to run for public office for the first time
Resident of Clackamas County or running for an office that includes at least part of Clackamas County
Nomination by a current DPCC Precinct Committee Person (PCP) using the Jill Thorn Grant Nomination Form OR direct application by using the Jill Thorn Grant Application Form
Submission of either of these completed forms by March 28.
After screening the forms, a representative of the subcommittee will contact each nominee or applicant to schedule a short interview. After the subcommittee makes its decision, it will report to the Executive Committee of the DPCC at its April meeting. Should the Executive Committee approve the award, it will forward its recommendation to the Central Committee of the DPCC for consideration at its April meeting. Announcement and presentation of the award will be scheduled subsequent to that decision.
Selection Criteria:
Demonstrated commitment to public service
Need for support in pursuing candidacy for office
Likelihood of success as a candidate for office
Candidate responses provided on the application form by the candidate or person nominating a candidate and responses from a personal interview
In addition to completing the application form, the candidate may attach a one-page resume to the application form.
You may apply for the grant or nominate someone for the grant online.
